Then, while on a trip to see my in-laws, I got bored with the conversation of Passover dinner logistics and did a random search for "Daytona USA arcade" within a 150 mile radius of my home address. A stand-up unit, which is still on eBay if you search, for $800. I found a local-ish retailer with a single player unit. How did I forget this one? This is what I needed. "DO DODO DO DODO DODO DO DOOOOOO DAAYYTONNAAAA." ![]() Then, in the process of my typical YouTube exploration, I came across a neat historical perspective of Daytona USA. But ultimately, I needed an original cabinet of some sort. I've even contemplated starting my own barcade. I ended up building my own RPi based multicade as a Makerspace project which currently resides in my classroom. Time Crisis, with the recoil action light gun, and the pedal actuator, which was so different for it's time. I remember knowing the Sub Zero's combos enough to the point that my 10 year old self would piss off most teenagers that were willing to give it a go. that deep voice bellowing out "Coming soon to Nintendo Ultra 64" in attract mode. Probably just another nostalgia-induced illness, reminding me days old, spending quarter after quarter at the boardwalk or in my local mall. So, I caught the arcade bug this past year. ![]()
